Certified Billing and Coding Specialist

Certified Clinical Medical Assistant

Certified Clinical Medical Assistants are vital members of any healthcare team and perform a variety of tasks that include phlebotomy, EKGs, assisting medical staff with procedures, injections, and administering medication, and maintaining electronic health records of patients. Upon completion of this eight-course program, participants can sit for the NHA's Certified Clinical Medical Assistant certification exam.

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA): NYSED Certification

The increase in longevity and the recent changes in the health care system have created an increased need for educated and skilled Nursing Assistants. This program gives students an excellent opportunity to acquire the necessary occupational skills required for C.N.A.s. The CNA profession is ideal for people seeking flexible hours working in nursing homes, hospitals, doctors' offices and health care facilities. The program includes anatomy and physiology, fundamentals of patient care and clinical experience in a residential health care facility. Screen reader support enabled.

Pre-/Co-requisites: Basic Cardiac Life Support (AHX-100); High School Diploma or GED/HSE; and US Citizenship or Legal Working Permits.

Students need to be fully vaccinated to complete clinicals.

8 hours online, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays from 6-10 pm; 12 clinical skills hours on campus; and a 30-hour externship at Chapin Nursing Home (end of the semester, 8 am. 2 pm.

Clinical Medical Assistant

Program Description

Hybrid Program. Entry-Level Clinical Practice 2-4 Months

The Clinical Medical Assisting program is designed to prepare students to function as professionals in multiple healthcare settings. Medical assistants with a clinical background perform various clinical tasks including assisting with the administration of medications and with minor procedures, performing an EKG electrocardiogram, obtaining laboratory specimens for testing, educating patients, and other related tasks. Job opportunities are prevalent with physician's offices, clinics, chiropractor's offices, hospitals and outpatient facilities.

This program prepares learners to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical aspects of a medical office. Instruction includes preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, pharmacology, taking and documenting vital signs, technical aspects of phlebotomy, the 12-lead EKG and the cardiac life cycle. The purpose of the Clinical Medical Assisting program is to prepare learners to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical aspects of a medical office.

Tuition - $3,499; Total Hours - 140 hour + 160 hour clinical externship

Community ESL Program
Whether you need to improve your English for professional, educational or personal reasons, the Community ESL Program at Queensborough Community College has the right class for you. We offer six levels from Basic Beginners to Advanced. Classes are taught by a highly experienced team of instructors eager to have you improve your English skills. Classes are held in classrooms equipped with state of the art technology. In order for us to place you in the proper level, we will ask you to register, pay the tuition take a short placement test. More information with be provided regarding the placement test that will be scheduled a few days prior to the start of the class.
Dental Assistant
The program prepares learners for entry-level positions as a chair-side dental assistant. This program covers the history of dentistry, introduction to the dental office, the legal aspects of dentistry, introduction to oral anatomy, dental operatory, introduction to tooth structure (primary and permanent teeth), the oral cavity; and other areas. The purpose of this program is to familiarize learners with all areas of administrative and clinical dental assisting focusing on the responsibilities required to function as an assistant in a dental practice.
Dialysis Technician
This program provides learners the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties required of dialysis technicians. Under the supervision of physicians and registered nurses, dialysis technicians operate kidney dialysis machines, prepare dialyzer reprocessing and delivery systems, as well as maintain and repair equipment. Furthermore, technicians work with patients during dialysis procedures and monitor and record vital signs, as well as administer local anesthetics and drugs as needed. Dialysis technicians must assess patients for any complications that occur during the procedure and be ready to take the necessary emergency measures, including administering oxygen or performing basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Additionally, they may also be involved in the training of patients for at-home dialysis treatment and providing the emotional support patients need for self-care.
EKG Technician

Introduction to cardiac anatomy and terminology, recognition of cardiac emergencies, obtaining 12-lead ECG or EKG tracing and basic rhythm interpretation.

This program covers topics and processes critical to conducting and interpreting electrocardiograms (EKGs). To begin, learners will review the anatomy and physiology of the heart. From there, learners will go on to explore the technology used such as the EKG machine. Next, participants will learn how to interpret a rhythm strip. And finally, learners will discover the details of a myocardial infarction. Successful completion of this program will help prepare learners to perform the role of EKG technician.

Emergency Medical Technician Certification

This course covers all techniques and operational aspects of an EMT. Demonstration, practice, and clinical observation are integrated with free online FEMA classes.

Bring current CPR certification to first class.

Certifications provided by NYS Bureau of EMS. Students will be required to pay a separate registration fee on FISDAP on line EMS scheduler to arrange clinical rotations.

Emergency Room Technician

An ER Tech provides technical support to MDs and RNs to optimize patient care. The ER Tech assists the MDs and RNs by performing Phlebotomy and IV stats, performing 12-lead EKGs, transporting patients to other departments, performs wound care, obtains lab specimens, documents all care/procedures provided, and performs other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements: Registrants must have AHA/BLS certification current before beginning program and upon completion of program. Students will be required to meet with Program Coordinator once per semester to asses progress towards completion of program/ HS Diploma or equivalent required.

To earn the certificate, the following courses must be successfully completed:

Patient Care Technician

The average Patient Care Technician (PCT) salary in New York, NY is $42,297 and the salary range typically falls between $36,852 and $47,295. The BLS reports that PCTs can expect a growth in demand of 17% from 2014 to 2024, which is much faster than the average for most other professions.

Patient Care Technicians are multi-disciplinary technical workers trained to provide basic nursing assistant care as well as other skilled functions. Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Clinics, Labs and Doctors' Offices all employ Patient Care Technicians. The disciplines included in the program at Queensborough Community College include six core competencies in CPR (AHX100), Standard First Aid (AHX183), EKG (AHX170), Phlebotomy (AHX171), Medical Terminology for Allied Health Programs (AHX-179), and Certified Nursing Assistant (NUX200).

After completing the program students can take the certification exam from the NHA and become a Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT).

Pharmacy Technician

The need for Pharmacy Technicians continues to grow with demand expected to increase substantially through 2024. Technicians work under the supervision of a registered pharmacist in hospitals, home infusion pharmacies, community pharmacies and other healthcare settings. This high demand for pharmacy technicians is the result of a multitude of factors including the constant availability of new drugs, the national shortage of registered pharmacists, the establishment of certified pharmacy technicians, and the aging population. Approximately 400,000 technicians will be employed by the year 2024 to meet our nation's growing healthcare demands.

This comprehensive course will prepare learners to enter the pharmacy field and take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board's PTCB exam. Content includes pharmacy medical terminology, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining generic and brand names drugs and much, much more. This program will prepare students to enter the pharmacy field and to pursue certification including the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board's PTCB exam.

Phlebotomy Technician

Obtain the introductory skills to secure an entry-level position. Learn various methods of blood collection through venipuncture, capillary puncture and, existing intravascular devices. Emphasizes use of anticoagulants, the order of draw and, procedures for obtaining and processing specimens. Safety considerations for all health care professionals and patients discussed. Registrants should purchase stethoscope, B/P cuff and non-latex gloves.
